Decorating ideas for summer

Summer is finally in full flow and we thought we would take this opportunity to give you some sizzling summer decorating tips!

Revamp old furniture

Got a tired side table or chair that needs some new life? You could spray paint in a summer colour, such as sky blue or grassy green and give it that all important lift.

Make sure you prime the furniture at the start to ensure that the paint adheres to the surface and wears better for longer.

Swapping out some Art

Dark walls can easily be brightened up with some carefully placed colourful art. Affordable pieces can be found just about anywhere online and at charity shops and car boots. A large piece or a collection of smaller pieces provide the perfect blank wall solution for large open rooms.

Bright, Summary Fabrics

Bright botanical prints (on bedding, for example) instantly lift a rooms feel. To let the motif truly shine, keep the wall colour neutral and other accessories to a minimum.

Make your table come to life!

Consider buying accent dishes to add splashes of summertime colour and pattern. Mix bright floral, tropical, or nautical-theme dishes with your everyday plates and bowls.

Use a clear a small table to create an impromptu bar, and arrange bottles and glassware on a pretty serving tray. Fun elements such as stir sticks and paper umbrellas create a summery style look.

Garden Fresh

Intersperse bright, summery colours in your home with freshly picked flowers. For the biggest impact use arrangements that feature warm colours. Small clusters of bright colour look cheery and create an undeniable summertime feel.

Finally, get casual…

Summer weather offers opportunities to find unexpected uses for formal serving pieces. A silver tray can hold pretty glassware, a pitcher can be filled with a delicious summery cocktail, and a champagne bucket makes a great container for an herb plant.
